Watch this drill if you are struggling with hitting behind the golf ball (fat shots) and hitting hooks! Typically with this pattern, the player’s body motion is as I describe in the video. Their upper body hangs back away from the target through the hitting area- this can cause the low point to move behind the ball and also cause the club to swing too much from inside to out.

For example, coming into impact your left shoulder gets higher than your right shoulder and your chest is leaning away from the target. Hit shots off of this lie to improve your contact on the golf ball. Imagine that your chest is moving towards the target at impact – not away from the target. It might also feel as though you are rotating more through the shot – that’s a good thing!
